For those of you who don’t know what booktube is just sit back and prepare to have your mind blown. It just so happens there is an entire community of people who obsess over books just like I do. (What? Other people are just as crazy and can’t stop buying books even though they have tons of books they haven’t read, and they will all most likely die next to a pile of unfinished books…. YEP. There are tons of us out there. It’s an addiction.)
Booktube is a community that shares what their bookshelves look like, what books they have bought recently, reviews, bookish décor, and so many other wonderful things that bring my soul true joy. (Not over exaggerating.) These book addicts can be found on youtube. Simply go to youtube and type ‘book haul’ in the search bar, and you are on your way to getting involved in this community. It’s essentially a special place on the internet where people who love books and love to read can come together and share their thoughts, recommendations, and opinions freely. Not to mention they can totally geek out over new releases and certain book covers and people won’t make fun of them, but will most likely totally agree because we ALL love it!!!
These are people that when you say ,’I know I didn’t need the books. I don’t even know what any of them are about, but the cover on this one, oh, and the reviews on that one….. and I had to buy them. It’s like the universe wanted me to have them, and before I knew it my wallet was on the counter and I was giving all my money to the scared looking teenage kid behind the register. Please don’t tell my husband.’ They will respond with, ‘I’ve been there too.” And you know that they truly have. It is a one of a kind connection!!!
So this year, Ariel Bissett, a well know booktuber is hosting the 7 day reading challenge that brings all of the reading community together, and IT IS SO AWESOME. Not only are you, along with so many others around the world, reading as much as possible within these 7 days, but there are also challenges on instagram and different social media outlets to keep people connected. You don’t have to participate in the other challenges such as take a picture of the reflection of a book, or read an entire book outside. You can just read, which is what I’m doing this year. This is my first year actually participating, and I have finished one book and already started a second.
So now that you know about it, what are you waiting for? It doesn’t end until July 30th at midnight. You still have plenty of time.
Grab a book. Grab a coffee. And READ. There is absolutely nothing better you could do with your spare time this week. Plus, it’s too damn hot to be outside so you might as well stay in. Oh, and you can drink coffee while you read. Any hobby that allows me to drink coffee during it is definitely an ok hobby in my book. The books I’m trying to read this week are below.
1. Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins
2. Under the Rose-Tainted Skies by Louise Gornoll
3. A Good Idea by Cristina Moracho
